citadel -- Inside the Mohammed Ali mosque. This mosque is from the early 1800's. The french influence is very strong. Lots of blue, curley-ques, and gilding etc. The French were not in charge of Egypt for long, but they (unfortunately) have left an enduring legacy in the decoration and furniture of modern Egypt. It is (rather derisively) referred to as “Louie Farouk”. (Farouk was the last Monarch of Egypt)
